Best Friend: A Handwritten Font for Friendly Branding

There’s something about starting a new brand project that feels like opening a blank canvas. Recently, I found myself staring at a fresh brand board, trying to capture the essence of a boutique skincare line. The goal was simple: create a visual identity that felt warm, approachable, and trustworthy. That’s when I first tested Best Friend, a handwritten font from Script Amp, and it immediately stood out.

A Warm Welcome in Every Curve

Best Friend is exactly what its name suggests—a font with a personality that feels like a genuine conversation. Its soft curves, gentle loops, and slightly irregular spacing give it an air of authenticity. It's not the kind of font you’d see on a corporate report or a stock market chart. Instead, it’s the perfect choice for projects that need a touch of innocence, charm, and human connection.

The font has a subtle variation in stroke weight, which adds depth without being overwhelming. Each letter feels hand-drawn, making it ideal for anything that needs to feel personal. Whether it's a logo, packaging label, or social media graphic, Best Friend brings a sense of intimacy to the design.

Testing Best Friend in Real Projects

I tested Best Friend across several branding elements to see how it performed in real-world applications. On a logo concept for the skincare brand, it worked beautifully as a headline font. Paired with a clean sans-serif typeface for body text, it created a balance between warmth and clarity.

On a packaging mockup, the font looked natural on a product label. It didn’t feel too playful or too casual—it struck the right tone for a brand that wanted to be seen as nurturing and reliable. When placed on a business card, the font added a friendly touch without sacrificing professionalism.

Even on a website header, Best Friend maintained readability while still feeling inviting. It wasn’t too small, and the spacing made it easy to scan. For social media posts, especially Instagram stories or quotes, it added a nice visual flair that aligned with the brand’s voice.

When to Use (and When Not to Use) Best Friend

While Best Friend is incredibly versatile, it’s important to use it wisely. This font shines as a display font, headline font, or accent typeface. It works well for short phrases, logos, and decorative elements, but it may not be the best fit for long-form content or small sizes.

If you're designing a brochure, blog post, or any piece that requires extensive body text, a more legible serif or sans-serif font would be better suited. Best Friend can look cluttered or difficult to read when used in long paragraphs or tiny text sizes.

Also, while it’s great for creative brands, it might not be the best match for formal or corporate environments where a more structured and professional look is needed.

Font Pairing and Practical Tips

Pairing Best Friend with other fonts can elevate your designs. For a balanced look, try combining it with a modern sans-serif font like Montserrat or Helvetica Neue for body text. If you want to keep the whimsical feel, a script font like Great Vibes could work well for accents or headings.

It’s also worth checking the font’s available styles, alternates, ligatures, and swashes if they’re included. These features can add extra character and flexibility to your designs. Additionally, make sure to confirm whether the font supports multilingual characters and check file formats if you plan to use it online or in print.

Before using Best Friend in final client work, always test it thoroughly. Try it out in different sizes, colors, and backgrounds to ensure it looks good in various contexts. Also, remember to review the commercial font licensing to ensure it's appropriate for your intended use—whether it’s for brand identity, packaging, templates, websites, or print-on-demand products.

As a designer, I’ve found that Best Friend brings a unique energy to any project it touches. It’s not just a font; it’s a voice, a mood, and a feeling. And for brands looking to connect with their audience on a personal level, that’s exactly what you need.
